The Intercountry Centre for Oral Health for Africa (ICOH), Jos, was honoured to host Professor Azeez Butali during a highly engaging and impactful visit focused on research excellence, mentorship, collaboration, and capacity building.
Through interactive training sessions with the Internal Management Committee, the ICOH Research Methodology and Facilitation Committee (Krebs Cycle), the Medical Laboratory Unit, the ICOH Research Team, the Grant Team, and other research enthusiasts, valuable insights were shared on research excellence, innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the future of oral health research in Africa.
A major highlight of the visit was a hands-on session on grant writing and competitive grant applications, during which Professor Butali provided practical guidance on developing fundable research proposals and navigating NIH grant application standards and processes.
The visit offered valuable learning opportunities and inspired participants to pursue impactful, high-quality research that addresses pressing oral health challenges while strengthening institutional and international collaborations.
