The Intercountry Centre for Oral Health (ICOH) for Africa, headquartered in Jos, has achieved a landmark moment in public service integrity, earning recognition as one of Nigeria's most ethically compliant public institutions from the Centre for Ethics and Self-Value Orientation (CESVO).
The honor was formally announced during an advocacy visit by CESVO officials to the Centre's headquarters on Monday, August 17, 2026. A Ceremony of Distinction.
At the investiture ceremony, CESVO's Executive Director, Ethicist (Prince) Salih Musa Yakubu, presented ICOH for Africa with the Corporate Ethics and Integrity Compliance Award Certificate, formally recognizing the Centre among the top 10 most ethically responsible Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) under the Federal Ministry of Health. A distinction that speaks to the institution's unwavering commitment to accountability and public trust.
The ceremony's centerpiece was the presentation of CESVO's highest honor, the Ambassador of Ethics and Conscience (AEC) award, bestowed upon ICOH's Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Olaniyi Taiwo, PhD. In a national assessment spanning CEOs across Federal MDAs, Dr. Taiwo was ranked second nationwide, a remarkable achievement that cements his standing as one of Nigeria's least corrupt and most ethically driven public officials.
What Set ICOH Apart
CESVO's rigorous evaluation weighed several critical dimensions of institutional excellence:
Integrity & Procurement Strict adherence to ethical standards and transparency in public procurement processes.
Service Standards, exemplary SERVICOM compliance, rigorous quality assurance in clinical research, and disciplined time management.
Staff Welfare & Outreach Transparent administrative practices, genuine staff empathy, and steadfast commitment to preventive health outreach targets.
Beyond leadership, the excellence extended throughout the organization, members of ICOH's Internal Management Committee individually received Letters of Commendation in recognition of their contributions to transparency and clinical excellence.
A Wider Mission of Ethical Leadership
In his address, Prince Yakubu underscored the vital role of civil society oversight in strengthening public institutions, revealing that CESVO has trained over 47,000 workers across Nigeria over the past five years through donor-funded initiatives, a testament to the organization's far-reaching commitment to ethical capacity building nationwide.
As part of this honor, CESVO has awarded ICOH 100 fully-funded slots for a two-day intensive capacity-building workshop, designed to sharpen clinical demonstration skills, advance oral health research, and strengthen community intervention strategies.
Setting the Standard for Excellence
Together, these honors reaffirm ICOH for Africa's standing as a premier regional healthcare institution, one defined by clinical excellence, operational transparency, and an enduring commitment to earning and preserving public trust.
